Mr. Matt Warner, Deacon
Men’s Bible Study Coordinator
Matthew Warner was raised in Heidelberg, Germany in an American family. He returned to the United States to be educated at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. Where he met his wife, Beth.
The Warner family settled in Hillsdale in 2008, when Matthew took a position as Assistant Director of Forensics & Lecture and Speech at Hillsdale College. At Cambria Baptist, Matthew teaches the College, Career, and Young Marrieds Sunday School class and hosts a weekly Men’s Bible Study. His wife, Beth, is an AWANA leader who splits her time between an administrator of International projects for a small Christ-Based missions and manitarian aid organization and teaching their son, Mitch, about God’s amazing creation.
It is Matthew’s vision that a key component to understanding and living the Christian walk is having a clear understanding of who God is and who man is, as we are told in the opening chapters of the book of Genesis. He strives, in both his life and the lives of Cambria Baptist members, for spiritual, emotional, and intellectual honesty. Asking life’s most difficult questions and seeking the answers from God’s word is the blueprint for his involvement in the teaching ministries at Cambria Baptist.
Matthew is heartened by the message of God’s sovereignty as recorded in Paul’s first epistle to the Corinthians, chapter 1 v. 18-25. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than Man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
