CUTTING E.D.G.E  Ministries is our group of teens ages 7th thru 12th graders that meet together to  hangout, fellowship have fun, socialize together from different counties and schools, eat, video games, play basketball, eat, have lesson from the youth director, and did we mention Eat E.D.G.E.  stands for (Eagerly Declaring God’s Excellence).  One teen described the Jeremy’s teaching “as fulfilling messages from the bible that will touch your heart no matter what age you are.”  Our teens have a difficult world to face and it is our goal to come along side of parents as another resource for them and their teenager as they navigate this time in their life while teaching Godly principals from the Bible.

METTING TIMES:

Sunday – 9:45 A.M. Sunday School Hour – The students have some fellowship time in the Family Life Center Gym as they arrive or enjoy a cup of juice, hot chocolate and snacks when they arrive.  The singing group No Greater Cause rehearse for part of this time and then Jeremy Harrington has a lesson for the students.

Sunday – 5:00 P.M.  Cutting EDGE meets at the Family Life Center to have a bible study over a selected series or we are preparing for our upcoming Youth Night.

  • The last two studies we have covered were over the book and movie “To Save a Life” which dealt with a teen age suicide and how this effected the relationships he left behind.  Before this we had a study “Purity is Possible” which gave students an understanding of why they would choose to live a pure life body, soul, and mind.  This study was an excellent answer for christian parents struggling with how to talk to their students about this topic as the discussion and parent/student activities are about the whole student and based on biblical principals.
  • Every couple of months the entire Sunday Evening Worship Service is taken over by the teenagers from Cutting EDGE.  This includes the musicians for the service music, the ushers, those that ask for prayer requests and give announcements, special music, sometimes a fun skit relevant to the topic, and the message for the evening.  The students prepare testimonies or lessons with the assistance of Jeremy and for some it is their first opportunity to speak or preach the Lord’s word.

Wednesday

  • 6:15 P.M. Family Action Night Dinner provided downstairs of the Church for those that would like to enjoy a meal for a suggested donation of $2.00 (when possible)
  • 7:00 P.M. Cutting Edge meets at the Family Life Center for a larger portion of time to socialize and fellowship with other youth from around our area, different counties, and schools.  Video games, a Pool Table, Foos Ball table, Air Hockey Table are available.  We also have a full size gym that include several basketball nets and students also play, hockey, dodge ball, indoor football, volleyball, soccer and anyother game they can create.  The Teen only Cafe is open on this night and sells candy bars, bosco sticks, pretzles, popcorn, suckers, gum, pop, and gatoraide and special snacks.  This is a popular night and the attendance is usually high for this night.  Jeremy designs the lessons for this evening to reach out to all of students that are welcome to Cutting EDGE that include those that attend church reguarly and those that are newly learning about the Lord.

JULY 17, thru  JULY 19, 2011 in Grayling, Michigan Canoe Trip and Campout

  • The parents and congregationprovided a meal after the morning worship service for the students and chaperones that attendedthiss excursion.  The group was on the river Monday, the 18th for most of the day but had some adults at the home camp that could have been reached throughout the day. Other activities were planned for this event to include fellowship and devotions each day. This year, Pastor Don Gentry challenged  students to remain sensitive to the things of God. This time in fellowship and in the Lord’s word  helped those students that were able to attend Camp CoBeAc in June to continue with their personal decisions and hopefully help all continue to draw closer to each other and our Lord.
  • Students were asked to bring a Bible, lawn chair, sleeping bag, pillow, bathing suit with a modest shirt or cover up, mosquito spray, sun lotion, and any other personal items they needed for two nights and three days.
  • Cost for students:  $75.00
  • Any questions about future Canoe Trip email Jeremy Harrington 527-375-4343 – jeremy@cambriabaptistchurch@frontiernet.net

YEARLY EVENTS:

Spring Welcome Event -

  • Parties and events to welcome the students that have just completed the 6th grade and are the incoming 7th graders to Cutting EDGE.

F.I.S.H. – Fellowship In Someone’s Home

  • During the summer months, members of the congregation open their homes to the EDGE Youth teenagers for food and fellowship after the evening Sunday service.  These events give opportunities to different generations to converse and fellowship with each other in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Some of the activities at F.I.S.H nights include campfires, sport contests such as flag football, basketball, volleyball, and games.  Transportation is provided to students from the church after the evening service and to their home after the event if needed.

Camp CoBeAc

  • During the Month of June, Students spend a week up north in Prudenville, Michigan isolated from electronic gadgets, television, radio, or news outlets.  They spend their time immersed in the Word of God memorizing and hearing dynamic speakers talking about their issues and topics that concern specifically teenagers and their everyday life.  Students come back changed from the experienced and many times return with a renewed spirit excited about the Lord and ready to face their world with a new focus.

Canoe Trip and Camp Out

  • In July, students head up to Grayling to canoe down the Au Sable River.  The students are together for three days with some of the adults from the congregation that help with the camp site and providing the meals for this outing.

Amazing Race

  • Almost like the race around the world, we set up a race around Hillsdale County for the Cutting EDGE students to take during a Saturday in October.  The students break off into teams of Two and compete for prize donated by the congregation.  They have challenging clues that range from bible trivia, cooking challenges, physicals obstacles, changing tires, and eating interesting items (and usually right after lunch).  It is one of their favorite activities and they begin planing and figuring out their team and strategies early.  Congregation members volunteer to drive and are selected at random by the first clue.  The challenges are also supervised by the congregation so it is a busy day for the entire church and one of our most fun and fellowship.  Come young and old, there is something for you in the Amazing Race.

Previous Events Scheduled:

  • Lazer Tag Night at Ultra Zone in Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Home Plate Detroit Baseball Game in May, with testimony time with Christian Tigers before the Game
  • Food Pantry Deliveries by the Cutting Edge
  • Wendy’s Runs – after evening services (whenever they get a chance during the fall, winter and spring)

Senior Honors Day

  • A special day is given to the graduating seniors from Cutting EDGE.  Wearing their cap and gown from their school during the Sunday Morning Worship Service, each graduate is honored for their success and given a new Bible to help guide them as the step into their future as a high school graduate.
